High-Level Ethiopian Delegation Led by Finance Minister Ahmed Shide Arrives in Washington, D.C. for World Bank and IMF Annual Meetings

KEYIR  NEWS — A high-level Ethiopian delegation led by Ahmed Shide, Minister of Finance, has arrived in Washington, D.C., to participate in the Annual Meetings of the World Bank Group and the International Monetary Fund (IMF), which will take place over several days beginning today.

The delegation includes senior government officials and policymakers, notably Dr. Eyob Tekalgn, Governor of the National Bank of Ethiopia (NBE). The meetings are expected to provide a platform for Ethiopia to engage with global financial leaders, development partners, and multilateral institutions on issues related to economic growth, fiscal reform, debt sustainability, and development financing.

During their stay, the delegation is scheduled to hold bilateral and multilateral discussions with representatives from various international financial organizations, development agencies, and donor institutions. The discussions are anticipated to focus on strengthening Ethiopia’s economic reform agenda, enhancing private sector participation, and mobilizing support for the country’s ongoing development programs.

Ahead of the meetings, on October 12, 2025, Minister Ahmed Shide and his delegation met with  Benalf Andualem, Ethiopia’s Ambassador and Special Envoy to the United States, along with other diplomats at the Ethiopian Embassy in Washington, D.C. The briefing session focused on the objectives of the visit and coordination strategies between the embassy and the delegation throughout the meetings.

The Ethiopian delegation’s participation in the 2025 World Bank and IMF Annual Meetings underscores the country’s commitment to engaging actively in global economic dialogue and advancing partnerships that contribute to Ethiopia’s sustainable growth and financial stability.
