The Ethiopian National Election Board has officially set June 1, 2026 as the voting date for the country’s 7th general election.
In a statement, the ruling Prosperity Party reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring a free, fair, and fully democratic process, emphasizing that the upcoming polls are vital to strengthening institutional democratic foundations.
The party highlighted that the previous 6th national election laid important groundwork for democratic development and said preparations are underway to make the 2026 vote another step toward advancing consensus-based democracy. It stressed that political reforms in recent years have helped establish institutional mechanisms necessary for long-term democratic culture, though such efforts require time and sustained commitment.
Calling active citizen participation essential, the Prosperity Party urged voters to fulfill their civic duties and contribute to building a stable, democratic Ethiopia for future generations.
