KEYIR NEWS - The Ethiopian Electric Service (EES) has launched a modern mobile application designed to streamline the process of verifying electricity meters, marking a significant step toward enhancing transparency, efficiency, and customer service in the power sector.
According to EES officials, the new app enables users to check the authenticity and operational status of their electricity meters in real time. Customers can simply scan or input their meter number to confirm whether it has been properly registered and calibrated by the utility. The initiative is part of EES’s broader digital transformation strategy aimed at modernizing service delivery and minimizing revenue losses caused by inaccurate or tampered meters.
The introduction of the verification app follows growing public demand for improved accountability and accuracy in electricity billing. In recent years, EES has faced challenges related to meter malfunction, illegal power connections, and customer complaints over estimated readings. By leveraging digital technology, the company hopes to address these long-standing issues and build greater public trust.
EES CEO emphasized that the innovation reflects Ethiopia’s commitment to modernizing its public utilities. “This system will significantly improve customer satisfaction, promote energy efficiency, and ensure fairness in billing,” he stated. The application also provides a platform for users to report faulty meters or suspected irregularities directly to EES, facilitating prompt investigation and corrective action.
The app is now available for download on major mobile platforms, and the service will gradually expand across all regions. EES is also planning to integrate additional features such as online bill payments, service requests, and outage notifications. Officials believe the initiative will not only simplify customer interactions but also contribute to the country’s broader goal of building a digitally enabled energy infrastructure.
