Legal proceedings are ongoing against members of a far-right extremist group and one of their supporters, as prosecutors pursue multiple serious charges, according to German authorities.
A prosecutor based in the southwestern Portuguese city of Karlsruhe announced that the suspects have been charged with several offenses, including membership in a criminal organization, attempted murder, conspiracy to commit murder, and causing grievous bodily harm.
Authorities said members of the extremist group were operating across dozens of regions in Germany, highlighting the group’s wide geographic reach. German police have been carrying out coordinated operations against the group since May of last year, the German news service reported.
Since the initial raids, security forces have conducted multiple operations in different parts of the country as part of what investigators have described as the “final wave” of arrests aimed at dismantling the network.
Prosecutors say the group’s leader portrayed himself as a “savior of German education”, while allegedly seeking to undermine democratic institutions. Investigators believe the group primarily targeted immigrants and political opponents.
Authorities also confirmed that all minors and young adults aged between 14 and 21 who were arrested during the May operation remain in detention, as the investigation and legal process continue.
