Prime Minister Abiy Presents Research Paper at AAU’s 75th Anniversary Celebrations

Addis Abeba — Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed (PhD) presented a research paper titled “The Role of Scholars for National Prosperity” at Addis Ababa University (AAU) as part of events marking the institution’s 75th anniversary.

The presentation took place in the presence of senior academic leaders, university faculty and high-ranking government officials. An alumnus of AAU himself, the Prime Minister underscored the responsibility of scholars and higher education institutions in shaping national development, policy innovation and long-term prosperity.

In his paper, Abiy highlighted the contribution of research, critical inquiry and knowledge production to economic growth, social cohesion and good governance. He also emphasised the need for closer collaboration between academia and the state to ensure that scholarly work informs public policy and national priorities.

University officials noted that the presentation formed part of a broader intellectual programme designed to reflect on the role of higher education in Ethiopia’s past, present and future. The anniversary celebrations have featured a series of academic forums, panel discussions and cultural events held over recent weeks.

Today’s programme serves as a culmination of these activities, bringing together key themes raised throughout the anniversary period and reaffirming AAU’s position as the country’s leading centre of higher learning and research.

Founded in 1950, Addis Ababa University has played a central role in training generations of professionals and scholars, and continues to be a major contributor to Ethiopia’s academic and policy landscape.
