Cybersecurity Is Inseparable from National Sovereignty, Says Minister Alemtshehai Paulos

KEYIR NEWS  — The Chief of Staff of the Prime Minister and Minister of Cabinet Affairs, Alemtshehai Paulos, emphasized that cybersecurity is inseparable from national sovereignty, underscoring its critical role in safeguarding Ethiopia’s digital infrastructure and development projects.

Speaking at the official launch of the 6th National Cybersecurity Month, held under the theme “Cybersecurity as the Foundation of Ethiopia,” Alemtshehai highlighted the growing significance of digital protection as the nation advances in its digital transformation journey. She stated that safeguarding the country’s cyber domain is essential to protect strategic national projects that have been completed or are currently underway.

The event, which brought together senior government officials, including Information Network Security Administration (INSA) Director General Tegus Hamid, marked the continuation of a five-year tradition of dedicating the month of October to public awareness on cybersecurity.

In her address, Tegus Hamid identified fake news as one of the five major global cybersecurity threats and urged citizens to take shared responsibility in combating misinformation. She noted that INSA is implementing key initiatives to enhance Ethiopia’s digital sovereignty and ensure the success of the nation’s ongoing Digital Ethiopia 2025 strategy while laying the groundwork for Digital Ethiopia 2030.

The month-long campaign aims to strengthen public understanding of cybersecurity risks and promote coordinated national action to build a secure and resilient digital ecosystem. Officials reaffirmed that a strong cybersecurity framework is indispensable to Ethiopia’s sustainable digital growth and to preserving its national independence in an increasingly interconnected world.
